Wouldn't it be kind'a cool if Radiohead (the band) broke up, and on their last concert, the band sang this song. [Then, as is typical of Independent musicians, the band members reformed and played with other musicians.]

"No Love for Chocolate?"

In Essence magazine, (8/11?) I ran across this small article:

No Love for Chocolate?
"It is upsetting to be described as chocolate...for all Black women and Black People."
-Naomi Campbell, after a Cadbury ad compared her to candy. Cadbury apoligized, though not all Blacks mind being called chocolate.)

My personal response to this ad:

I am a little confused by this article.
I probably would not want to be mentioned in a national candy business ad without my consent.

I have family with interesting nicknames...like Cookie. Naming people after tasty foods is not necessarily offensive to me...I would not mind if my mother had named me Kandi.
I think it depends on who is doing the naming (or name calling).

Essence.com featured "Eye Candy," pictures and articles about attractive African-American male models who were described as chocolate colored. Not all African-American male models want to be associated with chocolate, which is often dark brown, soft and sweet. A female might not mind being called 'sweet,' but a male might.

Old Folk rhymes describe girls as 'being made' from:
...sugar and spice and everything nice...
While boys are 'made from': Sticks and stones and puppy-dog bones.

Terms which may describe some African-Americans may not describe other African-Americans.
Being described 'sweet like chocolate' may not be upsetting to some African-American females, yet may upset most African-American men.

Is this offensive? Naomi Campbell is a chocolate colored diva, yet she is nothing like Godiva chocolate!

This is my mostly phonetic tribute to Rap music, black English poetry, and America, a country that supports freedom of Expression!



The word "Fo" is slang for Fake. I know I have hear people talk about fake name brands like "Fo" Sachi, or, as I myself created, a "Fo" Pu-bear sketch-design...for more information, see Faux (as in Faux Fur).

Today, I wanted to review my path towards becoming a phonetic thinker.


Around 2010, I wrote this poem called "The Hearing Alphabet," which is meant to be read and heard.

K is for the Kale I eat when I'm afraid

N is for Into, although the spelling is a mess!


O is for Open


P is Peanut


Q is for Cue, on stage that's what you do.


R is for Are


S is Essay


T is for (you could) Teach the alphabet this way...

W is for Double U, (I cheated once again)
